Critical System Patches

InterSystems recommends that you install the following patches immediately after installing MSM 4.4.1.

Adding and Expanding Databases

Patch: DB40fix.ZIP

Function

This patch corrects three errors in MSM-Server, Version 4.4.x.

  • When adding a database volume to an existing volume group, if the file name of the volume being created was longer than 64 characters, it was not handled properly, leading to errors during creation and mounting.
  • When adding a database volume to an existing volume group, one block in an existing volume could be corrupted resulting in DKHER errors in the newly created volume.

Installation: UNIX

  1. Run DB40fix.exe.
  2. Move the appropriate file to your UNIX system and uncompress it:
    • P12765L.RTN.Z - For little endian platforms
    • P12765A.RTN.Z - For MSM-UNIX on Digital UNIX Alpha processors
    • P12765B.RTN.Z - For big-endian MSM-UNIX systems (excluding Digital UNIX on Alpha processors)
  3. Load the appropriate RTN file into the MGR UCI via D ^%RR.

Installation: Intel-based PCs

  1. Run DB40fix.exe.
  2. Load the appropriate RTN file into the MGR UCI via D ^%RR.

Note: This patch is for Intel based DOS, Windows 95, 98 and NT systems only. Do not use this on Digital Alpha NT systems. If you have a Digital Alpha NT system, contact InterSystems support for help. This archive can only be unzipped on 32BIT systems. If you do not have access to a 32BIT capable architecture, contact support for this patch.

Platform Specific Issues

HP/UX 10.20

InterSystems recommends not upgrading HP/UX version 10.20 systems to MSM 4.4.1 because of a known memory leak problem. Systems of the problem include system crashes caused by out of memory errors and system freezes. InterSystems is still investigating this problem.

Procedure: To Recover Lost Memory

  1. Load the USEROPS routine from the hp44mem.rs routine save file using ^%RR.
  2. If USEROPS already exists on your MSM system, insert the patch code into the routine at the label HP44FIX so it executes as part of the label ENDPART.

Note: Restarting MSM will also free up the used memory.

Recommended System Patches

These patches add functionality but are not required for your MSM system to run correctly.

Cross-System Journaling and Failover

Patch: EN101125A.RTN is for Digital UNIX for the Alpha processor.

EN101125U.RTN is for all other MSM-UNIX platforms.

EN101125.GL is for all MSM-Server platforms.

Function

This patch enables completes the functionality associated with Cross-System Journaling described in the MSM Version 4.4 Release Notes.

MSM now supports two types of Cross-System Journaling.

  • Cross-System Journaling - very similar to the Cross-System Journaling feature of MSM Version 4.0. Cross-System Journaling is very easy to configure but includes no failover capabilities.
  • Server Management - the same as the Client/Server Management feature of MSM Version 4.3. Server Management is more robust, and handles both manual and automatic "failover" for servers that are down.

InterSystems recommends using both of these two features concurrently to ensure the best possible data protection.

Installation

  1. Load the routines from the appropriate RTN file into the MGR UCI with the %RR utility.
  2. Delete the SYSGEN global.
  3. Restore EN101125.GL via the %GR utility.

Optional System Patches

These fix known problems that some customers have experienced. If you have had any of these problems, you should install the appropriate patch.

Erase Display Escape Sequences (PC/PLUS only)

Patch: P12805.exe

Function

Corrects a problem involving the "erase display" escape sequences in which background colors are not honored properly. This error exists in MSM version 4.3.x as well.

Installation

  1. Run P12805.exe
