The
MSM Database
MSM is a low-cost database development environment based on multidimensional
technology. MSM gives leading companies the tools to build database
solutions that can be used to improve business performance. MSM is especially
suited for:
- Quickly navigating large amounts of very complex data;
- Analyzing information on-the-fly in real time; and
- Providing database access to large numbers of concurrent users without
a loss in performance.
In addition to providing a flexible database, MSM allows you to develop
applications with a variety of programming languages, including our
own scripting language. You can also use popular development tools like
Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, or Borland Delphior use MSMs
built-in development features.
MSM offers scalability, portability, modularity, interconnectivity,
and a full range of database reliability features. MSM also simplifies
maintenance, eliminating the need for extensive indexing, joins,
balancing, and compression. With its full SQL and ODBC support, MSM
can provide a relational view of its data, which opens the database
to the rest of the world.
How does MSMs database differ from other databases?
MSM is based on a multidimensional structure, which allows MSM-built
applications to share, analyze, and update data across dimensions, such
as time, sales region, patient, or product. Because the data is optimally
stored, systems created with MSM offer efficient tools for complex data
analysis.
Instead of storing data in tables, columns, and rows like a relational
database, MSM stores data in cross-tab views called arrays. The arrays
store data in a very organized fashion, which makes analysis much easier.
Arrays then can be structured to sort data in unlimited dimensions.
This allows users to drill down into their databases to
locate the information they want quickly.
MSM lets you use the language of your choice.
MSM allows you to use many programming languages, such as C, C++, or
COBOL. You may also want to add intelligence to your server with MSMs
built-in language, which is easy to use.
MSM allows you to use the tools you want.
MSM fully supports OLE, ODBC, and several APIs, which means you can
use virtually any commercially available tool to build front-ends to
MSMs database. Use Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, and Borland Delphior
try MSMs set of built-in development tools.
MSM fully supports the three-tier client/server model.
MSM provides complete three-tier client/server support that gives
you flexibilityyou can set up your systems however you like.
MSM automates the distribution of the presentation, application, and
data management tiers across the network so you do not need to perform
additional programming.
MSM is portable.
MSM is supported on a variety of platforms, so you can build an
application in one environment and run it on any other supported platform.
MSM runs on:
- Microsoft: Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.x, and MS-DOS
- UNIX: AIX, SCO, HP-UX,
- DG-UX, and over 25 others
MSM is modular.
MSM allows your system to grow as your needs grow. Using a building
block approach, MSM lets you add additional systems to a configuration
to incrementally increase performance and capacity.
In addition, clients and server components can run on any supported
platformand concurrently access the same MSM database.
MSM is scaleable.
Regardless of the size of your application, you can use MSM. From
small, single-user configurations to extremely large enterprise installations,
MSM handles them all.
MSM is reliable.
We offer a number of features designed to protect your MSM database,
such as online backup, database redundancy, automatic database recovery
(bulletproofing), and an automatic failover switch. These features help
eliminate system downtime, database corruption, and loss of service.
MSM is used worldwide.
Join the 1.4 million people worldwide who rely on the power and strength
of MSM. MSM is licensed at over 40,000 sites, and is supported by our
extensive international network of VARs and distributors.
